Eastern Africa MHPSS Network Releases Second Newsletter
Our partners at the Eastern Africa MHPSS Network have published the second edition of their regional newsletter, highlighting peacebuilding, grief, and psychosocial wellbeing work across the region.
In Kenya, the Network’s chapter partner Shalom Centre for Counselling and Development (SCCoDev) convened “Young Voices for Peace: Building Resilience and Championing Nonviolent Elections,” an intergenerational retreat bringing together young human rights defenders and seasoned peacebuilders ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Elections. The gathering explored identity, wellbeing, safety, nonviolent action, and peaceful civic participation, surfacing a key insight: the challenges facing young peacebuilders extend beyond an intergenerational gap to the wider systems that shape their access to resources, opportunities, and decision-making.
In its resource spotlight, the newsletter highlights “Resilience and Safety,” an article from the Inner Safety Project that invites practitioners to question whether celebrating resilience may sometimes overlook more fundamental questions: Do people feel safe? Are they well? What does healing actually look like after tremendous stress?
Looking ahead, the Somalia Country Chapter will host a Student Peace Initiative Co-Creation Workshop from 5 to 10 September 2026 at the University of Hargeisa, bringing stakeholders together to explore how students and young people can contribute to peacebuilding in their communities.
The Inner Safety Project is proud to sponsor Transform Trauma Oxford 2026, a four-day international gathering of leading clinicians, researchers, educators, and practitioners convening under the theme Science, Spirit and the Body: The Synthesis of Healing.
The conference explores the meeting point of evidence, lived experience, and the ineffable—an inquiry that sits at the very heart of our work. ISP staff and partners will be speaking across the programme, and we invite you to join us for an immersive session into our flagship Salama curriculum, where we will share current developments and invite dialogue around how inner safety is cultivated in communities affected by conflict and displacement. For those unable to attend in person, the conference is offered in a hybrid format with virtual attendance available.
